Makenna Furber is the founder and co-owner of Swimming Lessons @yourtownhere. Makenna grew up in Tisdale Sk working at the local pool as a lifeguard and swimming instructor where she found a passion for swimming and water safety. Makenna branched out on her own in the summer of 2022 to teach swimming lessons at local lakes as well as bringing Lifesaving Society Leadership courses to small communities in Saskatchewan. She was overwhelmed with requests to bring swimming lessons and lifeguarding courses to small communities. Makenna decided to fill this need by creating Swimming Lessons @yourtownhere to bring swimming lessons and lifeguard education to as many communities as possible. More recently she has joined the Online Swim Academy that operates out of the UK, where she has further developed her swimming instructor skills for working with infants and children in private lessons to foster early independence in the water and aid in drowning prevention within the most vulnerable population. Makenna has now spent time developing her own curriculum using all of her previous knowledge as well as evidenced based research on infant and child drownings. Makenna has a goal of making Saskatchewan's aquatic environments a safer place by teaching as many people to swim as possible and by providing quality training for small town community Lifeguards.
Outside of the business Makenna is also a Registered Nurse in the NICU in Saskatoon. She also works as a Dance Teacher in Biggar SK, another one of her passions that she loves to share with her students.
Teigan Furber is YTH’s Accountant & Co-owner. Teigan holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the U of S and is in the final stages of the Chartered Professional Accountant program with CPA Canada.
